THE GREAT MASS I |
|
 |
 |
| |
Only a few months after the death of the choreographer Uwe Scholz, EuroArts filmed the Ballett "Die Große Messe" ("The Great Mass") this past June. The full length Choreography takes its name from Mozart's famous C minor Mass, KV 427.
The composition is characterized by the mysterious aura surrounding its history as an unfinished work. This "fragmented" aspect is the jumping off point for the theatrical dance setting. Uwe Scholz' Ballett aims at finding the traces of transcendence in Mozart's music which express the idea described by the world's religions as "God".
Uwe Scholz died in November 2004 at the age of 45. "Die Grosse Messe" is one of the most impressive works of this important neoclassical Choreographer. The production "Die Große Messe" is the first dance production filmed for 24hours Mozart.
Location: Oper Leipzig
TV-Director: Hans Hulscher
A co-production of EuroArts Music, NHK and SF/DRS.
